Professor Mary Rutherford

Mary Rutherford trained as a paediatrician, specialising in neonatal neurology. She has worked with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for 30 years. Her expertise is in the acquisition and interpretation of fetal and neonatal MRI of the brain. Her research interests include optimising MR sequences to allow objective quantification of both normal and abnormal development. She is currently principal investigator on the MRC funded miBIrth study.
She is Professor of Perinatal Imaging at Kings College London and has an Honorary Contract with Guys and St Thomas’ Trust (GSTT). She is a group leader in the MRC Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
She also holds an Honorary Professor Post in the Department of Paediatrics, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Professor Rutherford has published extensively in the field of neonatal, fetal and placental MR imaging.
